Learn about the Matatu Owners Association — our history, mission, and vision

Our Story

Our History

The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has represented matatu owners in Kenya for the past 20 years. Since 2003, the organization has worked to solve the unfavorable business environment that investors in the sector encounter.

The company's governance arm is comprised of a group of matatu investors who founded the association to lobby for a more supportive climate in public transport. The Secretariat is in charge of managing the day-to-day operations.

Today, MOA continues to be at the forefront of advocacy, working closely with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and development partners.
