Empowering Communities Through Civic Education: Understanding Your Road Rights

The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) believes that everyone has the right to know their road rights. That’s why we offer civic education programs to matatu passengers and communities.

These programs teach people about their rights and responsibilities as road users. They also teach people about road safety and how to prevent accidents.

We believe that by empowering people with knowledge, we can help to make our roads safer for everyone.

Here are some of the key road rights that everyone should know:

  • The right to travel safely: Everyone has the right to travel safely on the roads, regardless of their age, gender, or social status.
  • The right to be treated with respect: Everyone has the right to be treated with respect by other road users, including matatu crews, motorists, and pedestrians.
  • The right to be informed: Everyone has the right to be informed about road safety laws and regulations.
  • The right to complain: If you are a victim of a road accident or if you witness a road traffic violation, you have the right to complain to the authorities.

In addition to these key rights, there are also a number of other road responsibilities that everyone should be aware of. These include:

  • The responsibility to obey traffic laws: Everyone has the responsibility to obey traffic laws, including speed limits, stop signs, and right-of-way rules.
  • The responsibility to be a safe driver: Everyone has the responsibility to be a safe driver, which includes being aware of their surroundings, driving at a safe speed, and not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • The responsibility to be a safe passenger: Everyone has the responsibility to be a safe passenger, which includes wearing a seatbelt, not distracting the driver, and not interfering with the driver’s ability to operate the vehicle safely.

By understanding your road rights and responsibilities, you can help to make our roads safer for everyone. The MOA is committed to providing civic education programs to help people learn about their road rights and responsibilities. We believe that by empowering people with knowledge, we can help to make our roads a safer place for everyone.

If you would like to learn more about your road rights and responsibilities, or if you would like to participate in a civic education program, please contact the Matatu Owners Association. We are here to help you make our roads safer.
